Mitutoyo HH-336 Digital Shore A Durometer

The Mitutoyo HH-336 is a handheld durometer that measures hardness on the Shore A scale. A blunt-taper indenter with a 0.79 mm tip is pressed into the surface under a defined spring force and the resistance to penetration is shown on the digital display as a Shore A value.

The measuring range is HA 10 to 90, which covers natural rubber, neoprene, soft PVC and comparable soft elastomers. Data hold freezes the reading so the instrument can be lifted from an awkward test position before the value is recorded, and the zero-setting function keeps the instrument referenced. Digimatic SPC output passes readings to a compatible data collector or printer.

Typical use is incoming inspection of rubber and elastomer stock, quality control of moulded components, and laboratory or workshop hardness checks. Note that hardness readings depend on specimen thickness, on measuring the material well in from its edge and on a flat, supported surface, so test conditions should be kept consistent if results are to be compared.
