Expansion Joints

Expansion joints that absorb thermal movement, misalignment and vibration in a pipe run: stainless steel bellows joints and rubber joints in flanged and union types. They are sized by the movement they have to take — axial, lateral and angular — and not by pipe size alone; a rubber joint on a pump discharge is usually there to stop vibration and noise travelling down the line rather than to take up heat growth. Give the line size and pressure, the medium and temperature, the movement expected, and whether the joint needs control rods to stop it over-extending.
