Description
The CS11H is a mechanical steam trap of the free-float type. Its only moving part is a ball float that rises and falls with the level of condensate in the body and uncovers a submerged orifice in proportion to the load. Because the orifice remains below the water line, a water seal is held across it and live steam is not passed.
Discharge is continuous and modulating rather than intermittent, so condensate is removed as fast as it forms and the temperature of the heating surface is held steady. Traps of this type carry an integral air vent, because a float sitting in condensate cannot itself discharge the air and non-condensable media that collect on start-up.
Typical duties are heat exchangers, calorifiers, jacketed vessels, air heater batteries and other modulating equipment where waterlogging must be avoided. The bolted cover and the bottom plug allow the float, orifice and vent to be inspected without cutting the trap out of the line.
Free-float traps are sized on the differential pressure across the orifice, so specify nominal size, body material, thread form and the maximum and minimum working pressure when ordering, along with the backpressure of the condensate return. Discharge capacity and steam loss for automatic steam traps are determined by the test methods of ISO 5117.
