Description

A mini safety relief valve is the smallest form of the spring-loaded relief device: a spring holds a disc on a seat, and when inlet pressure reaches the set pressure the disc lifts and vents through a port in the side of the body. Because the whole valve is machined from bar, it takes up very little height above the tapping, which is why this pattern is fitted to small air receivers, compressor heads, test rigs, pressure switches and small vessels where a full-size safety valve will not fit.

The unit shown is brass throughout, with a male thread beneath, a discharge port in the side of the body, a knurled screwed cap over the spring and a pull ring above it. The ring lifts the disc off its seat by hand so that the valve can be proved free and any scale or debris blown clear - a check that should be part of routine maintenance, since a relief valve that has never been lifted may be stuck.

Nothing on this item is stamped, so the set pressure has to come from the order rather than from the part. When enquiring, give the required set pressure, the inlet thread size and form, the service fluid, the discharge capacity needed and whether the valve is to be sealed after setting.
