These are brass sockets and plugs of the European industrial air-coupling pattern, which the Gulf trade calls "German". That name is not only a label here: the couplings shown are made in Germany by Hermann Jaeger. The same Eurostandard pattern is produced in several countries, and much of what is sold as "German" in the Gulf is not, so it is worth knowing which you are being offered. The socket carries the shut-off; the plug is pushed in until it latches. The set photographed includes female-thread, male-thread and hose-tail versions of both halves.
The European pattern is the one the trade calls Eurostandard DN 7,2 to 7,8. Tubes International publishes it as a 16 bar coupling for a service range of -20 to +100 degrees C, offered in brass and in galvanised carbon steel with 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch BSP threads, and states that couplings to this pattern are "interchangeable with all quick couplings from other manufacturers according to Eurostandard DN7.2 - 7.8". Cross-brand equivalents named in the trade are RECTUS 25/27KA, CEJN 320/410, PARKER RF, NORGREN 234/235/238 and TEMA 1600/1700.
The Euro pattern does not intermate with the American industrial interchange, with ARO 210, or with the Japanese and automotive patterns. It also flows considerably better than the American profiles, which matters on tools with a high air demand. Brass is the general-duty choice; where the coupling is cycled hard on impact tools, steel resists wear better.
When ordering, state the end form and thread size, and confirm that the plug profile matches the sockets already installed. Brass is suitable for air, nitrogen and other non-flammable media; it is not a choice for oxygen service, which requires dedicated, degreased equipment.
