The Mitutoyo PCG is a screw pitch gauge set of 51 leaves that combines metric and Unified thread pitches in one holder: 0.4 to 7 mm metric and 4 to 42 threads per inch Unified. The pitch is stamped on each leaf.
The thread is identified by laying the leaf into the thread form and sighting against the light; the correct leaf seats over several consecutive crests with no gap. Having both thread systems in one set matters in a mixed workshop, because a metric and a Unified pitch can be close enough that a single-system set will appear to fit a thread it does not belong to.
Typical work is identifying the pitch of bolts, studs, screws and fittings during maintenance, in the machine shop, and at the stores counter when an unmarked fastener has to be identified before a replacement is issued.
