Description

A misting nozzle atomises water through a single calibrated orifice a few tenths of a millimetre across. The finer the orifice the smaller the droplet and the more completely it flash-evaporates, which is what produces the cooling; the coarser the orifice the more water each nozzle passes and the greater the chance of wetting people, floors and equipment instead of cooling them.

Orifice size is stamped on the face of the nozzle. On the nozzles photographed the marks read 10 and 20, which on this trade's convention are 0.10 mm and 0.20 mm. The bodies are stainless steel or nickel-plated brass; the O-ring behind the head seals into a slip-lock or threaded nozzle port, and better nozzles contain an anti-drip check valve so the line stops cleanly instead of weeping onto whatever is below when the pump shuts down.

In Kuwait the deciding factor is usually water quality rather than droplet size. A 0.10 mm orifice blocks quickly on hard or sandy supply, and once one nozzle in a run blocks the pressure at the rest changes. Inlet filtration, a slightly coarser orifice and nozzles that can be unscrewed for descaling are generally a better system than the finest orifice available.

When ordering, state the orifice size in millimetres, the body material, the thread or slip-lock port the nozzle must fit, and whether an anti-drip check valve is required. There is no published standard for these components, so nozzles, ports and adaptors from different suppliers do not necessarily interchange even when they look identical - quote the port form as well as the nozzle.
