Description
The RSQ series is a two-way, normally closed, pilot operated solenoid valve. Line pressure across the diaphragm does the work of opening and closing the main orifice; the coil only moves the pilot. The series is built for a controlled closing rate, which is what limits water hammer - the pressure surge that follows an abrupt shut-off on a long or rigid pipe run and is the usual cause of cracked fittings and split hoses on booster and irrigation mains.
Coil consumption is low for the size of valve: 10-12 VA on AC 220 V, AC 110 V or AC 24 V, 9-10 W on DC 24 V and 6.5 W on DC 12 V, which suits solar and battery-backed control panels and long banks of valves on one transformer. Bodies are brass HPb59-1A or SS304, seals NBR as standard with EPDM and Viton offered, and an LED connector is listed as an option.
Sizes run G3/8" (RSQ-10) to G2" (RSQ-50), orifices 13.5 to 48.5 mm, Cv 3.5 to 46. Being pilot operated, the valve needs a minimum differential of 0.3 bar to open. Maximum pressure depends on size, medium and coil supply: up to 16 bar on air and 12 bar on water at G3/8" to G1" with AC 220 V or DC 24 V, dropping to 12 and 10 bar at G1.1/4" to G2", and 8 bar throughout on AC 24 V or DC 12 V.
When ordering, state size, body material, thread form, seal and coil voltage, and check the available differential at the valve - below 0.3 bar this series will not open and a semi-direct acting valve is the correct choice instead.
