Description
A non-return valve, also called a check valve, allows air to pass in one direction and closes against flow in the other. In the Airmax ANRV a light spring holds an aluminium needle pin against a seat carrying an NBR O-ring; forward flow lifts the pin off its seat, and any reversal, helped by the spring, drives it back onto the seat and seals bubble tight. The valve is entirely automatic and has no external adjustment.
Typical duties are protecting a compressor or a receiver from backflow, holding pressure in a section of line when supply is lost, preventing one branch of a manifold from feeding back into another, and keeping air in a clamping circuit so a workpiece is not released when the line is vented. Because the spring must be overcome before flow starts, a check valve always imposes a small cracking pressure and a pressure drop, which is why the valve should be sized on the flow the duty needs and not simply matched to pipe size.
The body is aluminium with an aluminium needle pin, a stainless steel spring, an NBR O-ring and a nylon or aluminium nut. A flow-direction arrow is marked on the body; a check valve fitted backwards will block the line entirely, so the arrow is checked against the intended direction before the joint is made up.
Sizes run from 1/8" to 1/2", with flow at 5 bar rising from 300 NLPM to 2500 NLPM and body length from 42 mm to 70 mm across that range. Specify size, thread form, and the flow the circuit must pass. Air is to be filtered and lubricated.
