Description
The Janatics DS2 is a pilot-operated spool valve: the solenoid does not shift the spool directly but opens a small pilot passage, and line pressure does the work. That is why the valve needs a minimum of 2 bar to operate and why a small coil - 6 VA on AC, 5 W on DC - can switch 1200 l/min. The unit photographed is DS255SR61, the 5/2 single solenoid version with spring return, in which the spool is held over while the coil is energised and returned by its spring when power is removed, so the cylinder takes a defined position on power failure.
The series also covers 3/2 normally open and normally closed, 5/2 double solenoid, and 5/3 with a blocked, exhausted or energised centre. Ports on the 5/2 and 5/3 valves are G1/4 for inlet and outlets with G1/8 exhausts and external pilot; the 3/2 valves carry G1/4 throughout. Every valve has a manual override for commissioning and fault-finding without energising the coil, and the bodies take a manifold as well as individual mounting.
NAMUR valves are the same switching function in a different mounting form. Rather than piping a valve to an actuator, a NAMUR valve bolts straight onto the actuator face through the interface fixed by VDI/VDE 3845. That interface carries two actuator air ducts in the mounting face and four tapped fixing holes - M5 on the 1/4" size, M6 on the 1/2" - one of which takes a coded screw so the valve can only be fitted the right way round, while the supply and any external pilot supply are piped separately. Any NAMUR valve therefore fits any NAMUR actuator regardless of maker, which is why the interface is standard on pneumatically actuated ball and butterfly valves. NAMUR is a mounting interface, not a manufacturer.
When ordering, state the function, the port size, whether single or double solenoid, and the coil voltage - AC 50 Hz at 24, 48, 110 or 220 V, or DC at 12, 24, 48 or 110 V, all within plus or minus 10 per cent. Janatics warns that the valve needs a supply capable of 1200 l/min through tube of at least 8 mm outside diameter and 5.5 mm bore, or the valve will malfunction on the manual override and on the coil. Air is to be filtered and lubricated with ISO VG32 oil.
