Description
A needle valve regulates flow by driving a slender tapered needle into a small seat. Because the taper is long relative to the orifice, a full turn of the handle changes the opening only slightly, which is what makes the valve suitable for throttling, metering and for slowly bleeding pressure off a gauge or transmitter rather than for on/off duty.
The bodies shown are stainless steel bar stock with hexagonal flats for a spanner and a T-bar handle on a rising stem. Two port arrangements are offered: female x female, with both ports on one axis for fitting into a line, and male x female, which screws directly into an instrument port or manifold. The valve photographed carries NPT taper threads; NPT is a 60 degree, 1:16 tapered form to ASME B1.20.1 that seals on the thread flanks and therefore needs a thread sealant, and it will not seal against a BSP female.
When ordering, state the port size and thread form, whether the valve is to be female x female or male x female, the body material, the packing material, and the working pressure and temperature the line will see. The 6000 psi figure stamped on the 1/2" unit in the photograph belongs to that size and configuration; confirm the rating for the size you order.
