Aluminum Storz Couplings

Aluminium Storz Hose Couplings

Symmetrical Storz couplings in aluminium for water, fire and irrigation hose. Both halves are identical and join with a quarter turn; only halves sharing the same lug dimension KA will connect.

Description

Storz is a symmetrical hose coupling: both halves are identical, so there is no male and no female. Two halves are offered up and given a quarter turn, and the lugs on each ride into the ramps on the other to pull the faces onto the seal. The only dimension that must match is the lug dimension KA - halves with different KA will not connect even when they are sold under the same nominal inch size.

Aluminium is the usual body material for water, fire and irrigation service. Tubes International supplies aluminium Storz with a white NBR seal as standard, rated -40 to +110 degrees C, and publishes the aluminium range from KA 31 (size 25-D) through to KA 278 (size 250), covering hose bores from 19 mm to 258 mm - the 15 mm bore listed against KA 31 is a brass coupling. Silicone (-60 to +180 degrees C), Viton (-15 to +200 degrees C) and EPDM (-35 to +130 degrees C) seals are available where the medium or the temperature requires them.

Forged and cast Storz couplings are not equivalent and the difference is not cosmetic. Forged bodies are published at up to 16 bar working pressure - though the two largest sizes, KA 220 and KA 278, are marked PN 10 bar - while cast bodies are limited to 6 bar, have lower material strength and are more prone to casting defects, with published pull tests showing the cast lugs fracturing first. Where the origin of a coupling is not documented, do not assume the forged rating.

When ordering, state the lug dimension KA or the size designation (for example 52-C, 75-B, 110-A), the hose bore, and whether a hose tail, a threaded end or a blank cap is required.

Specifications

Coupling Pattern Symmetrical Storz - both halves identical, joined by a quarter turn. Only halves with the same lug dimension KA will connect.
Body Material Aluminium (brass and stainless steel are also produced in this pattern; the catalogue does not name a stainless grade)
Size Range Aluminium range KA 31 (25-D) to KA 278 (250), for hose bores 19 - 258 mm. The 15 mm bore listed at KA 31 is a brass coupling, not an aluminium one. German fire-service sizes: 52-C = KA 66, 75-B = KA 89, 110-A = KA 133.
Working Pressure Up to 16 bar for forged couplings; cast couplings are limited to 6 bar. Not every item carries the 16 bar figure - the two largest sizes, KA 220 and KA 278, and several adaptors are marked PN 10 bar in the catalogue. Cast bodies have lower material strength and are more prone to casting defects.
Seal Material White NBR as standard on aluminium bodies (black NBR on brass, Viton on stainless)
Seal Temperature Range NBR -40 to +110 C; silicone -60 to +180 C; Viton -15 to +200 C; EPDM -35 to +130 C
Configurations Offered Hose tail, male and female thread adaptors, flange adaptors and blank caps
