Description

These are lugged screw-together hose couplings of the pattern used on water tanker, bowser and site pump hose. Each coupling is a hose tail with a swivelling union nut; the nut carries two cast lugs so it can be pulled up by hand or levered with a bar, and the joint seals on a flat washer inside the nut rather than on the thread itself.

They are supplied in brass and in aluminium. Aluminium keeps the weight down on large-bore discharge hose and resists corrosion; brass is used where the coupling is handled constantly or left made up in a wet environment. Mixed assemblies with an aluminium body and a brass nut are common in this pattern.

No published international standard fixes the pattern. Nut thread, lug spacing and washer size are therefore not guaranteed to interchange between suppliers, and a nut from one range may not pull up correctly on another maker tail. Buy mating halves together and keep spare washers with the hose.

When ordering, state the hose bore, the thread size and form on the nut, the body material, and the washer material needed for the medium being handled.
