The Mitutoyo Series 129 is a mechanical depth micrometer for measuring the depth of holes, slots, recesses, steps and shoulders. The measuring rod is interchangeable: twelve rods are supplied with the instrument, and fitting the appropriate rod extends the working capacity from 0 to 300 mm without changing the head.
The base is hardened tool steel and provides the reference surface that the reading is taken against, so its flatness matters as much as the screw itself; the measuring faces are hardened, precision-ground and micro-lapped. A ratchet stop maintains constant measuring force, and the scale reads to 0.01 mm.
It is used in machining, tool room and fabrication inspection, for maintenance checks on machined parts and assemblies, and in quality control where a mechanical depth gauge is preferred to an electronic one. Supplied with the twelve rods, a spanner, a hex key and a fitted case.
