The Mitutoyo Series 137 is a tubular inside micrometer for measuring bores, tubes, cylinders and pipe internal diameters. A micrometer head is coupled to extension rods, and the rod fitted sets the working capacity; the set covers 50 to 1500 mm and reads to 0.01 mm.
The rod assembly is steel with hardened steel measuring faces. The cylindrical gauge rods are spring-mounted and stored in protective sleeves, which keeps their end faces from being knocked out of true between uses - on an instrument of this length the rod is the measurement, so its condition governs the result. The satin-chrome sleeve and thimble keep the scale readable at arm's length inside a bore.
Typical work is internal measurement on large mechanical assemblies during maintenance inspection, machine shop and fabrication dimensional control, and quality checks where an extension rod inside micrometer is the only practical instrument for the diameter involved.
