Description
A swing check valve carries a disc hinged at the top of the body. Forward flow lifts the disc clear of the seat; when the flow stops or reverses, the disc falls back onto the seat under its own weight and the returning pressure and closes the line. There is no spring and no handwheel — the valve is operated entirely by the flow it passes.
Two body materials are offered. The stainless body photographed is cast with the grade mark CF8, the ASTM A351 casting grade equivalent to AISI 304, and is cast '200' beside the flow arrow. The brass body is cast '200 WOG'. WOG is the cold working pressure for water and oil — 200 psi, 13.8 bar, non-shock, at ambient temperature. On bronze valves to MSS SP-80 the same 200 psi WOG figure is the Class 125 rating; MSS SP-80 covers bronze rather than brass, so it is cited here only to explain the mark.
Typical duties are pump discharge lines, water and compressed-air service and general screwed pipework where a check is needed but a flanged valve is not warranted. Order by nominal size, body material and — the point most often missed — thread form: BSP parallel (ISO 228-1), BSP taper (EN 10226-1) and NPT (ASME B1.20.1) are not interchangeable, and a BSP male started into an NPT female will jam before it seals. Install horizontally with the cap uppermost, or vertically with the flow rising; a swing disc will not seat reliably in downward flow.
