Stainless Steel Dual Plate Wafer Type Check Valve

Stainless Steel Dual Plate Wafer Check Valve

All-stainless dual plate check valve in a wafer body, clamped between two pipe flanges. Two spring-loaded half-discs fold open on forward flow and are shut by the springs as flow decays, closing before the column reverses.

Description

A dual plate check valve replaces the single heavy disc of a swing check with two spring-loaded half-discs hinged on a central pin. They open through a small angle, sit in the flow rather than swinging out of it, and are closed by their torsion springs as the flow decays rather than by the reversing column. The result is a short, light valve that closes before appreciable reverse velocity develops, which is why this pattern is specified where check slam is a concern.

The valve photographed is stainless throughout — body, plates, hinge and stop pins and springs — with a lifting eye on the body. The wafer body has no lugs: it is centred on the flange bolts and clamped between the two flange faces, so it cannot be used to blank off a line and both flanges must be in place before the joint is made up.

API 594 is the standard that covers this valve family — Type A, short face-to-face, wafer body, single or dual plate. Because the valve is clamped between flanges, the flange standard and rating matter as much as the bore: ASME B16.5 Class 150 or 300 and EN 1092-1 PN 10, 16, 25 or 40 are drilled differently and are not interchangeable. State the flange standard, the rating, the nominal size and the medium when ordering.

Specifications

Valve Type Dual plate (twin half-disc) spring-assisted check valve
Body Style Wafer — no lugs; centred on the flange bolts and clamped between two flange faces. Lifting eye on the body.
Materials Stainless steel body, plates, hinge and stop pins and springs. The cast grade mark on the plate is not legible in the supplied photograph — specify ASTM A351 CF8 (cast 304) or CF8M (cast 316) on the order.
Design Standard for the Type API 594 — Check Valves: Flanged, Lug, Wafer, and Butt-welding — Type A, short face-to-face, wafer body, single or dual plate
Flange Compatibility The valve must match the flanges it is clamped between — ASME B16.5 (Class 150/300) and EN 1092-1 (PN 10/16/25/40) are drilled differently and are not interchangeable. State the flange standard and rating on the order.
