Description
The valve sits in a tubing run rather than in threaded pipework: each end is a compression tube fitting that grips 1/2 in OD tube, so the line is made up by cutting and deburring the tube and pulling the nut up, with no thread sealant and no pipe dope in the system. Inside, a spring-loaded poppet passes flow one way and seats on reversal; the direction is arrowed on the body.
The unit photographed is marked BRENNAN, CHECK VALVE, CONN. 1/2" OD and SS316. Brennan states in its Instrumentation Catalog that its instrumentation valves are supplied in double-ferrule design only, and that its double-ferrule tube fittings are made to be interchangeable and intermixable with Swagelok and Parker A-LOK tube fittings — which is usually the deciding factor when a check has to go into an existing tubing system.
316 stainless suits process water, hydrocarbons, instrument air and most general chemical duties. A part number is not marked on the body, so confirm the exact Brennan reference, the working pressure and the cracking pressure with the manufacturer or the branch before quoting the valve into a system, and confirm the tube wall thickness the fitting is to be made up on.
